I noticed that this once abandoned building had occupants and that pleased me whenever I passed by. My assumption was that it was residential.   I became intrigued when I saw an art show advertised on that street. It wasn’t until I looked at a map that i saw it was THAT building. Located at 305 Knowlton Street in Bridgeport,t CT, are artist studios named “305 Knowlton”, part of the Bridgeport Art Trail.

Paintings, sculptures, photography, functional art, a yoga studio, a Tai Chi studio are among the tenants who showcased pieces and held demonstrations.

I bumped into new neighbors who had heard about it through word of mouth. They asked “How did you know?” My reply was “Social Media” and i could tell from the look on their faces that they didn’t use it. It provoked me to share an event the next day that was even closer to home. They asked - how did you know about that? And I said social media.

Social media is the new hand flyer. There are some events that are only listed there. Until two years ago I was one of the hold outs but not anymore. Look at the amazing Art I might have missed and the locals I wouldn’t have met. If I had not been following the Bridgeport Art Trail, I might have continued to pass by this building, not knowing the gold mine inside.

How are you using social media to find hidden gems?
