It was Sunday morning and I woke up looking for solo friendly things to do. My host suggested visiting Whiting Mills, an artist community located in town. One Sunday a month they hold an open studio event.  The way she spoke about it made me curious.

What I discovered were master artists working in a non traditional historical space and a treasure trove of art and crafts. I viewed art, had interesting conversations with artists and became an artist myself.  I passed by a hand made sign that said “American Mural Project”. Children where painting using live models as inspiration. I asked whether the activity was open to adults and the answer was, “Yes”.

I learned that the American Mural Project is being constructed one piece of artwork at a time.  When completed it will be 5 stories high. I went to see the exhibit and it was inspiring. I need to return to visit my art contribution when the mural is completed!

I had a wonderfully engaging and unique three hour visit because I accepted the recommendation of a local resident.
