I was on my home from a weekend in Massachusetts and wanted to do something light hearted as I stretched my legs. I Googled “Hidden Gems” and the Winslow Farm Sanctuary caught me eye

Run by children volunteers, rescued farm, exotic and domesticated animals are lovingly cared for. The sanctuary was decorated for Halloween and I could paint a pumpkin as a part of the visit if I wanted to.

Many of the resident animals are living free range. As requested, I did not try to pet the pig. Most of the animals were very friendly, though the lhamas were a bit shy. I seemed to have a natural bond with one of the large goats, but later learned that the possibility of chewing on my jacket was what drew him to me.

It was an easy place to engage with the animals, staff and other visitors while stretching my legs after being in the car for a while. What compells you to visit a place other than a typical highway rest stop?
