The idea of tuba enthusiasts of all ages collaborating to create a orchestra of professionals and novices to perform a holiday concert intrigued me. The more I learned about how this came to be, the more it shouted “Authentic Experience” and the more I wanted to attend.

The ticket was free, parking was free and it was a standing room only crowd. When I arrived I could feel the energy in the building. The three dozen or so musicians onstage in the auditorium played well together despite the lean rehearsal of a few hours earlier in the day. On the second verse the audience joined in to sing.

Afterwards there was a frenzy of networking and photos and triumph as we filed out feeling happy to have been a part of the tuba celebration. What untypical performance has exceeded your expectations?
